Painting and Drawing Tronies
A tronie: (16/17th-century Dutch for “face”) is a common type, or group of types, of works common in Dutch Golden Age painting and Flemish Baroque painting that shows an exaggerated facial expression or a stock character in costume.
Join Charles Miano on an expressive exploration of character and costume in his unique classical approach to portrait drawing and painting portraits with historical clothing!
Miano will highlight his special sprezzatura style which distinguishes his work as both studied and bold.
He will show artists his “Golden Age” palette mixtures for creating life-like portraits in oil in the grand manner of Rembrandt and the Old Masters.
Miano Method will help you create convincing, life-like portraits every time. Miano will demonstrate mass drawing/painting, step-by-step from start to finish! Follow along at home as he explains the nuances of his method.
Creating a likeness of a person is one of the great challenges facing an artist. In these
online workshops, Charles Miano will unlock the secret by sharing his oil painting
method as well as his charcoal drawing method. You will learn to work in stages, in order to execute a portrait from start to finish.
With Miano’s sculptural and mass-oriented approach, you will realize your full potential
of seeing. Miano’s method blends a perfect balance of an abstract, free approach with
traditional studio technique. Unleash your power of personal expression while
maintaining the beauty and naturalness of realism. Artists will have the opportunity to interact LIVE with the group and receive live personal critiques from Charles. Many drawing and painting principles will be demonstrated and discussed throughout these workshops.
