Artist Talk and Reception

You won’t want to miss this unique lecture from one of the great Master Artists of our time, Max Ginsburg. Mr. Ginsburg will talk about his work dealing with social issues, multi-figure paintings, and the influence of Old Masters in terms of their social concepts and realist skills. He will present some of his paintings completed over the last incredible 61 years of work. A question and answer session and a reception will follow his presentation. Please join us!

Cost for this amazing experience: $25.

Students who are registered to attend Mr. Ginsburg’s week-long workshop (11/13/2017 through 11/17/2017) are admitted free of charge.

Monday, November 13, 2017, 9:30 until 12pm.

Painting Demonstration

Join us for a morning to observe Master Artist Max Ginsburg as he demonstrates his art. He will paint, alla prima, a portrait study of a model. Starting on a blank canvas and without a preliminary pencil or charcoal drawing, Mr. Ginsburg will block in the basic shapes with respect to design, shapes, values, and especially proportions. He will then develop the forms using color, essentially mixtures of cool and warm colors. His goal is to capture the unique character of the model through the unique relationship of forms that he observes. He paints the forms he sees, not those he knows or has memorized. This requires constant and careful observation–or good drawing–for the duration of the painting. Mr. Ginsburg will discuss his process and entertain questions during the model breaks.

Cost for this once in a lifetime experience is $75. There is no additional cost for students who are registered for Mr. Ginsburg’s week-long workshop (11/13/2017 through 11/17/2017).

Monday, November 13 through Friday, November 17, 2017,

9:30 until 4pm daily.

Workshop in Traditional Realism and Alla Prima Painting

In this workshop, students will paint from life, observing the model carefully to see and understand the form and also express the character of the individual posing. The objective of the workshop is to develop skill to paint realistically in the tradition of the Old Masters. Max will critique each student’s painting daily, give painting from life demonstrations, and give talks about contemporary and traditional art in relation to the paintings we are doing in this workshop.
