The structural basis of the Russian Academic approach is fundamental to understanding the human figure as a 3-dimensional form in space. This workshop circuit focuses on the fundamentals of the Russian Academic method of drawing. Participants will work on still-life assignments, beginning with geometric forms, and progressing to still-lives with organic objects and cloth, and finally, the cast head. Participants will study and reinforce the principles of perspective, construction, light and shadow, and tonal hierarchy. This workshop circuit is an excellent opportunity to dip one’s toes into the classical Russian academic method or to return to and reinforce the basics for those who are more advanced. Iliya Mirochnik will be doing demonstrations throughout the class.
