Oct 14-15, Color & Light Lab: Understand Color Values with Charles Miano

Learning to accurately portray Color Values is the key to describing our visual experience in Painting. In this 2-day Oil Painting Lab, artists will learn to describe the “light effect”, using a range of tonal values. Participants will focus on how to create the correct value of the colors we perceive by simplifying them. A strong emphasis will be placed on half-tone painting, which can give a picture the proper sense of 3- dimensionality. Value studies will be made using a traditional system of comparison.

Artists will be working mostly with a monochromatic palette. Both open and closed grisaille painting will be taught and demonstrated throughout the workshop as well as some color note comparisons. Artists will work from a simple subject of their choice.

All are welcome to join Educator, Charles Miano of Southern Atelier on this visual journey of learning to “see” as an artist.
