Color and Light Lab/ Edges

It has been said that Edges are the poetry, spirit and soul of a painting. While many admire the deft use of edges in master paintings, few have unlocked the secret to their use. Join Charles Miano on an exploration of this fundamental element of oil painting which can add beauty and intensity of emotion to your work.

In this Lab, Miano will outline a system for edge comparison. He will illustrate and demonstrate a clear method for interpreting the life we behold onto canvas, using secret components from the rich cultural tradition of painting. Atmosphere, color, light, values, forms and planes all give evidence toward the creation and design of edges in a painting. Each work of art should have a spontaneous and natural effect which can be made apparent with proper edge design. With the ultimate goal of “light effect”, Miano will teach exercises designed to improve one’s ability to see artistically.
